    Audio Driver

Hi. Am new to the forum so not sure how it works as yet. Here goes. I have a Dimension 4700 with OS XP Home edition. It was necc. for me to reinstall but since no luck with any sound. I downloaded ADi 198x Audio Driver then have a message: "No AD1 Codec Driver Installed" so have no idea what this is or where to go for it?

    sound card

Thanks for reply. For some reason when I go to Dell download and put tag #, response is a list of drivers I need - okay. However when I click on the "blue down arrow" to the left of the driver, all that happens is the arrow flips up - no new info at all. Finally called Dell Tech, and happily was given the audio driver - ADi 198x ... File: R94481.EXE - I downloaded this and installed, shut computer down & restarted. Then get the "No AD1 Codec Driver Installed". So now I am at a loss.

Try going into Device Manager. Find the device with the yellow exclamation mark. Update the driver from the file that you just downloaded and/or extracted from that .exe file.

    Good Luck!

As an add on to the posts above, have you done all the updates for XP since you reinstalled? If not, I would suggest doing so making sure you have the latest service pack.
It's not the computers that keep having problems, it's the users!!
