    wireless network wi-fi problem

Hey im using an acer one d150 and running windows xp pro sp2. Recently my wifi went down and i cant seem to get it working again. i went to my device manager to see why an unknown device labeled (ethernet controller) keeps popping up to install but installs with an error. the device is listed in unkown devices in the device manager with a ? Mark. I used Unown Devices (the program) to get a list of whats wrong. I tried to install this to rid of the problem (Wireless LAN_Atheros_8.0.0.225_W7x64W7x86_A) but the found new hardware keeps coming up. The problem is a code 1 in the device manager. Heres what unknown devices says --

Unknown Device from Foxconn International Inc
Chip: Unknown Chipset from Atheros Communications Inc

Try here, there are 2 different possible wireless cards in your series, so I suggest downloading both, even though your other software lists it as an Atheros.

yeah i tried there and i downloaded 2 different WLAN Broadcom drivers but i had the same result. So the Atheros and Broadcom were the only ones listed for this model .And i dont even see the light for the switch go on at the bottom of the comp. Is there a way i can find out what model wi-fi card i have without taking it out? Oh and wheere on the comp is the wi-fi card located if i have to replace it......

Have you tried going ito device manager and uninstalling the problem device first? Also, some laptops have a wifi switch that must be utilized, be sure that this is "on".

    my 2 cents...

    Try loading OLDER drivers.

I say this because I have an HP ze4900 laptop, and if I allow the newest wireless driver to install it breaks my wireless EVERY TIME.

Whatever new-functionality it offers is useless if it doesnt work...

    FWIW.

yeah i tried to uninstall the devices and uninstall and reinstall the drivers. Not only the wi-fi but the ethernet caught problems i cant reinstall that either So no internet the atheros lan wouldnt install says i dont have an atheros card? :-/ Oh and do you mean the switch on the book or to enable from inside windows? Hmm and where can i find some old drivers for these besides he acer driver page? I tried to search for altenatives but tthey are aall the same.It happened to the vga drivers, the chipset, sata, both ethernet controllers,( which theres one port so the other must be wi-fi) the 3g,and im not sure what camera model i have. It seems like all my harware is not recognized :P

Sounds like you might be better off using the recovery disk that came with the unit, or if not available, asking Acer for a replacement. If you are having other hardware drivers getting lost, you may have a virus or malware that has to be remedied before anything else dies. Run a scan in safe mode, and keep your fingers crossed.

    Hi,
As you have mentioned above that you want to know the details of your Wireless Card. Please download the below software and install, it will give you complete details then accordingly download the driver for the wireless card.

Make sure you have turned on the Wireless Switch.

Cool thanx for the program this tells me a lot I could use this in the future ..... Anyway I found the drivers for it and it works like a charm . Just wish me luck with this sound driver problem with all the choppy sound :-/ seems my sm bus controller (?) wont work when i install it and reinstall it. I got this (Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) SMBus Controller) which supposed to be the right one but my os wont load when i install it. so i have to use my last known good configuration ....... Any ideas?
