Clone 160Gb HD to new 1Tb HD

    Windows XP on C:
    Windows Vista on E:
    Asus M4AA785TD-M MB
    4 GB Ram
    AMD Phenom II X3 2.8
    Maxtor 6Y160MO 160Gb HD Partitions C-G

I have just purchased a 'Samsung HD103SJ' 1Tb HD to replace my existing Maxtor HD.

I'd like to clone my data from the Maxtor to the Samsung. Please can I receive advice on some available cloning software, which could copy accross my existing data & re-size the partitions as necessary, and any instructive advice would be great.

Sorry about the pop-ups; I get the notice BUT I have a TON of them blocked through my Privacy settings so they never show.

Vista won't boot after new HD installed

From the above, I've used Acronis True Image to clone all my data & partitions to the new drive, which completed successfully.
Removed my old drive & re-booted.
I'm using Visaboot Dual Boot function between XP & Vista.
Booted into Vista successfully. Rebooted & tried XP, all ok.
Now I try to reboot into Vista again, bootup fails during start, where microsoft corp is shown on screen with the moving cursur. PC just re-boots without reason. However, I ab able to boot into Safe Mode.
I've tried running the Vista Repair function. This returns adv cannot repair with the following reason:-

    Problem Event Name - SystemRepairV2
    Problem Signature 01: External Media
    Problem Signature 02: 6.0.6000.16386.6.0.6001.18000
    Problem Signature 03: 2
    Problem Signature 04: 65537
    Problem Signature 05: Unknown
    Problem Signature 06: NoRootCause
    Problem Signature 07: 0
    Problem Signsture 08: 2
    Problem Signature 09: WrpRepair
    Problem Signature 10: 2

    OS Version 6.0.6000.2.0.0.256.1
    Locale ID: 1033

    Any help please.

What external devices are connected at boot?

If Safe Mode works, something that is loading ( a USB device driver??) in normal boot for an external device seems to be the culprit.

So, in Safe Mode, disable what you can.

Thanks CCT. Only have keyboard & mouse on USB, plus printer which was turned off. However, I found reason, which was I had the new HD pluged to the second SATA port, instead of replacing my original HD connection on the first SATA port.
Switched them over & now is all ok. Still, I wouldn't have thought this should have been an issue. XP never complained.

    That is indeed strange.

    For your interest, I found this note in a thread where someone was experiencing boot problems with a single drive on an Asus mobo;

'Discovered an interesting solution. I recalled I once had a problem with another ASUS mobo that it would not read the HD when it was plugged into SATA port 1 and would only work when I plugged it into SATA port 2, no matter what boot sequence I used in the BIOS.

So moved the new HD "C" drive to SATA port/slot 2 and one of my other storage drives to SATA port/slot 1. On boot it started right up and Vista see all the storage drives. System seems to be running good. Go figure'

I guess there are minor issues like that all the time.
