I got given an IBM eServer X Series 206, 8482-1SU. It is obviously a light duty, entry level server.

I know nothing about IBM gear. It is a bit alien to me.

Stock:

P4 1x 2.8GHz/200-800MHz (1MB L2 cache), 1x 256MB PC2700 CL2.5 ECC DDR SDRAM UDIMM, 0x 0GB HDD (open bay), simple-swap SATA IDE, 48x IDE CD-ROM drive, diskette drive, Gigibit Ethernet controller, ATI SVGA video

2x PCIx slots

3x PCI slots

1x - SCSI mini-PCIx adapter slot

Mine:

3 Gb of RAM (2x - 512, 2x 1Gb)

2x 80 Gb SATA drives.

I know that the maximum amount of RAM it will accept is 4 Gb, so there is not much point is searching for DDR 400 ECC unbuffered RAM.

I am wondering if anyone knows what the BIOS will accept in SATA hard drive sizes.

My new toy server appears to be in good working order, except for dust bunnies and a rattling rear case fan.

Maybe I will try migrating my Windows Home Server to it if it will take 1 Tb drives and if I can get a replacement case fan.

Fun. New toys are good.
