Exclamation Faulty and choppy sound and ? sm bus controller

I've been experiencing some serious wacky problems after a fresh installation of windows xp pro sp2 (which is now sp3). I just fixed a lot of drivers and other problems now im just left with the first problem i started with. Slow boot up, startup, and shut down. Not only that The sound has been completely choppy esp. on startup and any media (mp3, audio, video , flash etc.) On top of that i've been trying to fix this driver "SM bus controller" with a question mark in device manager. when i uninstall it, it comes back when i restart and unsuccessfully installs. i've tried reinstalling chipsets, audio drivers etc.... If theres any info u need just ask me thanks in advance

Well without knowing which one it isnt going to be easy.
SM Bus drivers are very specific to the chipset and
audio likely will not work correctly till they SM bus
is installed correctly.

Hey supposedly this installation was the one i was lookin for (INF_AllOS_8.4.0.1016_PV_Intel)so i installed it and it worked!so the driver was finally installed correctly but it promted me to restart. So i did and as windows was loading it decided to do a reall quick blue screen of death and then restart to the menu with the safe modes and the options to start windows normally and the last known good config... I tried starting it normally but same scenario soi started with the config. But the device was not installed and i never got to know if it was working so i installed it again and made a restore point but that didnt work either... same window..... Maybe im installing the wrong one (like you said its quite specific...) or the comp dont like me lol. Any ideas? thnx in advance

If this is not a built in sound card try taking it out and starting the computer up. If it's a built in sound device disable it in the bios. See if the boot of the pc speeds up. If it does I suspect it may be a faulty device in general and not just a driver issue.

Its an Acer Aspire One netbook
Which I think came with Windows 7
Is this correct?
This should be the chipset drivers
http://global-download.acer.com/GDFi...C=Acer&SC=PA_7

Apparently all info for the Kav10 is under AOD150

No it came with windows xp and i've been to the acer website since i reinstalled windows and i actually have a folder with all the listed drivers on the site for aod150 and i've tested them all and still the sm bus wont install correctly.but i will try this thank you guys Anyway like i said it did install correctly when i used this driver (INF_AllOS_8.4.0.1016_PV_Intel) but the comp refuses to boot up windows after restart. so if i can get it to boot with it installed i can at least see if my sound will come back full force. So maybe ur right about the sound device being faulty and im not sure if its built in or not .... how do i find out or how do i disable from bios..... But disabling wont help if im trying to get sound back. And boot up is still a little slow(which is most likely caused by the choppy sound) but its not a major problem cuz i fixed the speed with other programs..... thanx again

It is absolutely built in
Now you may be able to go to bios
and then turn off the on board audio.
Then boot up and try to install the sm bus.
Then see if it will boot to windows.
If that is successfull then try turning the sound device
back on after at least 2 or 3 reboots.
If that doesn't work you may have a defective piece of hardware.

ok i tried the driver from acer .... worked great! BUT once again i could not start windows normally..... so im back at square one maybe its corrupt? or i have something installed that conflicts? Considering I may have successfully installed some windows 7 drivers by mistake and or windows could have updated and caused it to conflict with our correct driver.... sigh..... lemme give u a list of my installed programs.. maybe you guys could be the judge of it :-/

uhh i could only get into setup (InsydeH20 setup utility)not the bios.... i dont get it i trieed every button know to computers... i keep getting the same window where theres virtually no option esp. anything that has to do with bios??? tried f1 f2 f12(which brings a simple boot priority menu) and esc or ctrl alt esc, which brings a window which comes up for a split second and says f2 to enter setup or f12 for boot menu . i press f2 and the same window comes up. This desktop is such a mystery :-/

Ok with these programs listed I say format and reload
Cain & Abel v4.9.35
LimeWire PRO 4.16.2 Ver: 4.16.2
PC Booster Ver: 5.0
R-Wipe&Clean 8.5
µTorrent Ver: 2.0.1

With all this you likely are totally riddled with trojans and viruses.
I dont think you can work without a properly installed baseline without all that garbage
