    opening pps files in Thunderbird

I used to be able to open pps Files right from within thunderbird until I had to get my Windows XP reinstalled, now the only way I can open pps files is to save them to my desk top and then open them. when I try to click on the PPS file in Thunderbird I get the following message
    " c:\windows\installer\{95120000-00AF-0409-0000-000000office}\ ppvwicon.exe is not a valid win 32 application."

when I click OK, the following message comes on
"C:\DOCUME~1\owner\local~1\temp\name of pps file could not be opened because of an unknown error

it then shows a down load box with the name of the file and "failed - mailbox resources.

in Thunderbird under tools Options, attachments it shows pps file with the action use 2007 microsoft office component. Any suggestions. Thanks

Have you removed thunderbird and rebooted and deleted all its old folders then reinstalled?

Uninstalled thunderbird, deleted all old files, and tried again, no change.
