USB Port To Female Firewire IEEE?

My new laptop does not have a firewire port or PCMCIA slot. How can I hook up my MiniDV Camcorder to get videos on to my computer?

Most likely, opiate, you will need to get something like a StarTech USB to ExpressCard adapter and a 1394 card to plug into it.

Good find! I have the 1394 adapter that I used with my old laptop, but there is no slot on my new MSI laptop. Can you tell me if the spects on the data rate for this expresscard adapter will be ok for firewire DV?

The adapter offers data transfer at up to 480 Mb/sec, so it should work fine for your camera. Will your old card work? Not sure. Expresscard is NOT compatible with either PCMCIA or CardBus standards. But, I bet if you search on newegg or Amazon, you can find a usb adapter that would work with the older cards if you have one.

Right, you'll either need to shop for an external adapter that supports a Cardbus device, or shell out for a new Expresscard Firewire adapter.

All the different formats for memory cards and expansion cards are enough to confuse everybody. Glad it's sorted out.
