Ask him for the router login and password and find out the IP range the router is set to. Then apply an IP address that suits it.
Ok, I got the control panel. Its a Linksys router. Now, where do I find the range that you specified? So far, its got 198.168.1.1. Is this what youre talking about?
When you enable DHCP, afaik the Linksys router defaults to that starting IP and that range.
Say your comp logs on first - it gets 100 - the next comp gets 101 (like I say, afaik).
edit: In XP, you left click Start, Network Connections, then right click the Lan or High Speed Internet Connection listed, then left click properties, then left click Internet protocol, left click Properties for it, and make sure you are set to obtain an IP and SNS server adress automatically. Then when you fire up the NIC, it'll connect auto.
note: I used the XP Wireless Wizard in Control panel to set up the 2 I use.
What do you need to change the IP address for?
If you do change the IP address what impact is it going to have on the person who owns the router when he gets back?

cuz some idoit admin at another forum banned me. and i want to re-enter (through the back door, so to speak). and plus, my friend wont get back for another 5 months.
I'm a bit unclear on what you are wanting to do here with this "come back later through the back door" idea. The thread started out sounding like it wasn't something the owner was going to approve of and now it seems to have gone full circle into a situation the owner probably wouldn't approve of again. I'm just curious why said friend can't just take care of these things for you once he returns and why there is a need for you to use it without his knowledge.

What did you say or do to get banned? We won't help you break rules here, and if you have written permission to use your friend's equipment, why would it matter if he / she will be back in 5 months or 5 minutes?

I'm sorry coolx, you will need to sort out any issues involving being banned from another forum between them and yourself. We can't assist you in circumventing any security measures implemented by the operators of another website. I'll close this topic now, as it cannot be answered within the rules of the forum.
