Lenovo 3000 V100 Bios time stands still
Hello,
I got this Lenovo 3000 V100 which it's battery is totally finished (Main Battery - Not CMOS), And when I enter the BIOS, The time stands still.
When I take it out of the AC socket for few minutes, BIOS keeps date and time, But seconds do not advance. I took the CMOS battery out, And now time is reseted, And seconds DO advance.
Can this behavior be due to CMOS battery weakness ?
Thank you

Yes, I think it's quite likely that sort of misbehavior could be because of a marginal CMOS backup battery. If the clock holds time normally tested with a fresh backup battery (eg overnight off the mains with the main battery removed), then it's a fair assumption that was the cause.

Hi Plat.
I haven't found a CMOS battery in Israel that cost less than 24$ !!! so I've soldiered a new 1$ 2032 battery (Same model as the original) instead of the old one.I tested it out of the AC mains for few minutes and it does keep time.I'll continue to check and see if it keeps date and time overnight as you suggested.
P.S. There is also a strange issue of wifi signal disappearing if the main battery (Not CMOS) Is dead, And I saw it on some forums. Decided to buy a mini usb wifi dongle and disable the internal one....boy....this computer screams for attention...
Thank you

I just wanted to inform that I've replaced the CMOS battery and left the laptop off the mains last night and it seems to keep time well. I also received a new 6-cell battery for this laptop and it charges it and works well.
Thank you for the help Plat.
