    dreaded 'Antimalware Doctor' virus

    Windows XP SP3
    AMD 2600+ CPU
    Asus A7N600-X MB
    2Gb RAM
    160GB HD
    Mcafee Netprotect (BT)

Please can someone advise how to remove the dreaded 'Antimalware Doctor' virus.

I have tried various removal attempts, incl Mcafee, HouseCall & Malwarebytes and it keeps coming back.

I've also googlesearched and tried other peoples methods, but nothing appears to work.

Once this is removed, can anyone recommend an app which would keep this one away. Mcafee appears to to let this one in.

Ok first thing you do is go to another computer and download Combofix.
    http://download.bleepingcomputer.com...5/ComboFix.exe
On the other computer rename it to something like Rambo.exe
Then copy it to a memory stick or a cd.
Then start the infected computer in safemode with networking.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315222
Then using the memory stick or cd whichever you choose
run that program on the infected pc.
While its running shut off system restore on the infected pc
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310405
Dont run anything on the infected pc except that program till its done.
When its done uninstall malwarebytes from Add Remove Programs in the
    control panel.
Then reinstall it and update it and scan in safemode

The short answer is NO. If you make the mistake of assuming that any AV software is 100% effective at blocking new infections, you are just asking to be re-infected.

If you look at the test results for proactive detection on Virus Bulletin or A-V Comparatives, you will see that the top proactive detection rates are only around 75-80%. Current estimates in the industry are that over fifty five thousand new, unique bits of malware are written per month.

That means your best defense is online paranoia. Avoid all the stupid, virtually useless "tuneup" utilities, unnecessary add-ins or plug-ins for your browser, and when you do download anything, be super cautious about the site you use.

You should run the best AV software you can find, too. I'd say that's NOD32, Avira, MS Security Essentials, Vipre, and (yep) Norton.

Edit: Meant to include Avast in the recommended AV list!

To support SL on this don't rely on your AV to detect malware in the first place. You need to have anti-malware and antivirus software on your pc. In addition your antimalware isn't going to catch the newest infectors because they haven't been discovered or fixed yet. Your best tool is your brain and smart habits.
One Script to rule them all.
    One Script to find them.
One Script to bring them all,
    and clean up after itself.
