    SBS 2008 + Exchange 2007 - Strange Issue

I've run into a strange issue on-site, with revolves around SBS 2008 with exchange 2007 running.

The exchange system isnt receiving mail from any external sources, such as google, Yahoo, or other systems. Internet is still operational, and the server is able to send and receive internal messages throughout the local net.

Was on the tech support chat for here, ended up checking all the server logs, exchange logs, and everything in event viewer, didnt find anything suggesting it couldnt get any data to it, and past that, there wasnt anything more suggested by the techs on the chat.

Sent 4 test messages from google, none even hit the server, so nothing was delivered. Any suggestions as to what to do next? Done a cold restart, as well as checked firewall and DNS settings, everything seems to work. :/

Try to telnet on port 25 from an external IP

    telnet YOUR_SERVER_IP 25
    you should see something like:

    >220 yourdomainname Service Ready
    then type:
    helo
    >250 Requested mail action okay, completed
    mail from:[email protected]
    >250 Requested mail action okay, completed
    rcpt to:[email protected]
    >250 Requested mail action okay, completed
    data
    >354 Start mail input; end with <CRLF>.<CRLF>
    blah blah
    .
    >250 Requested mail action okay, completed
    quit
    >221 Service closing transmission channel

Soon you should get a mail if everything is good
Now if you can't connect try troubleshooting the network connectivity starting with a basic ping...
FIY: I've seen Symantec and McAffee acting up and blocking external mail...

Edit: if you PM me with your email address on the server I can try to check from outside...

See, here's the thing, I'm just the tech, they are letting me use an old email account they're erasing soon, so I wont have email access on their server in a little while. I'll try the telnet later, when i'm off-site, then I'll get back to you.

Nope, can't telnet in from a remote IP, even with the IP being allowed through the firewalls.

That's your problem. Apparently a firewall is blocking - whether it's a local software one or a hardware one.

And that would explain it. The client changed location now, moved all their IT equipment and their offices elsewhere, so now its all working.
