    can't print ot hp dj970cxi

Trying to install this printer on new dell at work but I can't seem to get it to print. Our windows 7 image doesn't have a lot of printer drivers on it and when I tried to install the old xp drivers they install but don't work. It shows up under devices and printers but doesn't do anything.

Go to HP's website and look for Windows 7 drivers for that printer. They may not be available.

Just type HP.com in your browser, then look for Support and Drivers, and follow the prompts.

I tried that, hp says the driver is supplied with win 7 but it isn't listed under hp printers. I suspect our image doesn't have all the microsoft drivers. It might just be these printers are too old.

You could download the HP Universal driver and try that. It has been know to work at times.

Take a look here. It looks like windows update can solve the issue.

I would think removeing drivers from the windows 7 image unlikely.

Tried windows update, didn't work. HP doesn't list a driver, says that windows 7 should have it already or use update. The update didn't find anything.

I'm unclear about how you have been trying to install drivers. Windows 7 definitely has 64 bit drivers for the DeskJet 970cxi. First off, you need Administrative rights to install the printer. Assuming you are past that hurdle, and the drivers didn't automatically install, you will need to install the printer manually. Unplug the printer's usb cable.

Go to Devices and Printers, Add a Printer, then select Local Printer. Open the drop down menu and see if you have an option to use a Virtual USB Port. For HP's these will be DOTsomething or other. If you don't, just select LPT1 or USB Port. Then from the next window, browse down to HP for the printer brand in the left pane, select it and click Windows Update. After all the updates have downloaded, browse down the right hand pane to the Deskjet 970cxi, select it, and click OK to download and install the driver.

After all that's done, you will need to plug in the printer to complete the installation. If the printer displays a yellow exclamation point, reboot. If the printer is still not right, use the troubleshooting option to correct the error. Many times, Windows will go online for drivers, then reinstall the printer. You might be asked to connect the printer during this process, but that just means you will have to unplug the usb cable for a few seconds, then reconnect it. Some of the steps are unnecessary; but that's just the way the troubleshooter works. This normally clears up any problems.

Of course, here's another thought. At this point a 970cxi is 10 years old. They were pretty crappy printers that had many reliability and maintenance problems. Consider spending $50 on a new printer.

I went to devices and printers, add a printer. it goes through the motions and shows a printer but it doesn't do anything if I try tp print to it. The odd thing is if I go into hardware it lists a printer but no driver, regardless of what driver I try to tell it use.Strangiest thing I've seen and I have been using win 7 at home since it came out. Obviously there are things missing in the enterprise version here at work. I think the printer is too old to work with win 7.

Well, even though this thread is a little old, I'd also have to add that I've found many of Microsoft's native Win 7 drivers for HP printers appear not to work at all. But generally, the HP Universal Driver does.

Get Latest Drivers from Official HP Website and install it. You can search HP Support Number in Google
