Could be an infection - have you run any malware scans?

Just running combofix straight off isn't actually very advisable. It's powerful, but it's designed to be used as part of a complete malware analysis like they do on bleepingcomputer, and can sometimes brick a system. Also it's continually updated so the very latest release should always be obtained.

My preference would be to run a full scan with a well regarded AV, and also with an anti-malware program, for which I utilize MBAM, SuperAntiSpyware and sometimes a-squared. If a system passes both full AV and malware scans, then I look for other causes first.

Get Process Explorer. See what exactly is running under that svchost process. That will give you a good idea of what exactly is causing the issue.
