    Touch Screen problems

    hi guys

I have an older plasma cutting machine which i just replaced a few blow capacitors on the mother board. so the machine works fine now but the touch screen isn't working now.

it was working before the dismantle to replace the capacitors, and I'm pretty positive that i plugged everything back in the proper place

    does anyone have any ideas

im not sure what specific details you guys would need to answer this question but just ask and i think i can come up with an answer for you

    Welcome to WinDrivers, justins.

Is it the entire screen non-operational, or just the touch function?

Apart from the possibility of a connector overlooked or not seated fully, the screen could also have some bad capacitors.

the screen works as in the images show up and if i plug a mouse into the board i can run the machine but the touching part doesnt work.

i since the last post i have gone through and switched up all the connections to any possible combination that i could have screwed up and nothing works

also if you look up touch screen problems on google nothing but smart phone problems show up

I haven't had to be involved with repairing touch screens, the only one through our workshop was a Mitsubishi that they'd had modded by a specialist company they weren't dealing with any more, so they paid out the owner when it failed under warranty. What interface is the touch section on - is it recent enough to be something like USB, or is it some proprietary connection on a board? And how is the control software configured, is it a proprietary embedded system, or built on an OS you can get access to like Windows 2000?

the logic board for the computer is a mini ITX and has Windows XP on it. there is a large board (approx 7X4 in) that plugs into the logic board. the 5wire touch screen then plugs into a 10pin serial wire(wide flat wire with the end one red). also plugged into this board is a 4 pin wire that plugs into a USB in which the USB runs into the logic board

also there are a few other wires that run into this board including a reset, and e-stop switch, which do work so that lets me know the board is not bad.

also when i went into the computer properities and devices it said the hardware was running normally.

also the current screen is a Berquist 10.4" resistive screen

at this point im ready to just buy a new one, but am also curious if a different brand will work with this particular board or am i best off just getting the same one?

Without knowing if the interface board is dedicated to that monitor, I'd think it would be safest to replace with an identical monitor if possible, and if you're confident the monitor itself is at fault. It could still be just the touchscreen interface faulty on the interface card, but proving it is the thing, and I guess overall the monitor seems the more likely.

i guess i didnt make it clear earlier but I was only talking about the touch screen itself not the monitor.

the set up we have for this machine is a board and housing which has a monitor on it. then a touch screen placed over the top

Ah OK, not an integral touchscreen monitor - fair enough.
