XP error code 0x80070424
Hi Tec guys :
Placing a help question about this XP error code 0x80070424 . I cannot turn on Automatic Update .
For a good week now Windows Update no longer works and get this code . I have tried all help fixed Mic Soft Win has posted ... still nothing fixes the problem .
Just to note an observation : In one of the fix - suggestions it asks if 'Automatic Update' ... is started . This line is missing entirely in that drop down window . I have re-downloaded the XP Service Pack 3 again ... in hopes to 'add' what is missing .... did not help .
On advice of a friend I am now posting this here .
Regards, Douglas

There seems to be a number of reasons for this error .
NO 1 being a modified boot.ini. Read about it here.

Also what antivirus and anti spyware are you using for this machine?
This is also pertinent information

The more detailed observation I wanted to mention befor :
Under : Start - Run : Services.msc:
BTI services listed and ..... started
Windows Update -> ..... not listed ! OR Automatic Update .... not listed !
Work station listed and .....started
