Errors after Acer laptop factory recovery

Hello all,

Fresh install of Windows 7 Home Premium from Acer recovery CDs. Now I cannot get into Windows at all, even in safe mode...

Getting this:
Windows\system32\kdcom.dll
0xc0000221
Windows failed to load because the kernel debugger DLL is missing or corrupt.

I have tried to repair it using a Windows 7 repair CD, but it said it could not be, gving these under more detail:
1. 6.1.7600.16385
2. 6.1.7600.16385
3. Unknown
4. 21200928
5. ExternalMedia
6. 2
7. Failure during setup

Has anyone got any tips for this?

The hard drive is a WD and its passes their testing software. Memory is also good.

Check the bios - has AHCI been enabled? If so disable and try again. If not, enable and try again. Also was this a complete restore or the recovery that allows you to save "user data"?

Also you might have a usb/sdcard storage plugged in which wasn't there when the recovery image was made MS KB 934540

Yes, it was a complete restore with no saving of anything.

I have tried it with AHCI disabled, I will try with it enabled.

No SD card in it.

This is using their recovery CDs that I purchased from Acer.

Silly question jakkwb, if you have just purchased these disks from Acer, is there a reason you haven't phone their support? They might have sent you the wrong disk.

If the AHCI trick doesn't work, disable usb as best you can and try again. Make sure that the boot order is the optical drive followed by the hard drive and the usb boot option is all the way to the bottom of your list. Also check that there is absolutely nothing plugged in via usb ports - including printers.

NooNoo,

System is out of warranty. Acer said "indeed, we shipped you the correct recovery set". And did not help me any more.

The BIOS in this machine has very little options. I will see if there is a option to disable BIOS, but I don't remember seeing it.

Will let you know.

I would try a few different things.
I would remove 1 of the memory chips and try it, then alternate and remove the other one.
I would also try using a windows 7 dvd of the same flavor (Home Premium)
I have sold a lot of Acer laptops and those are things i have done occasionally

SOLVED -

I had tried this earlier with AHCI off and also on, getting the same error message...

So, I zero filled the hard drive (even though Acer recovery CD said it blanked the HD...), turned AHCI back on, and ran the recovery discs again. This time it worked....

Great to hear it. The need to zero fill says to me that there was something marking the drive - like Norton does or just nasty little bug that didn't get smooshed by your anti-virus tools
