Question operating systems not found press F1

can anyone help i work in a nursery and yet again the children have either done something or the computer has broken, i am the ICT lead although i have no qualifications, i seem to be deemed this role.

when switching the computer on today the only messgae was "operating system not found press F1"

when press F1 this just increased the message on the page, the computer was apart of a "thinkcentre" which it still is except i changed the moniter and keyboard a while ago.

can anyone help and in a not jargon way????

i have looked over other comments and i am bafflled

    please help?

We are going to need bit more info at this point. Does the computer in question have its own hard drive, or is it a thin client? Is there a Windows operating system on it? It might be something as simple as taking a floppy out of the drive or a U.S.B. flash drive out of a U.S.B. port, as it may be trying to boot from that. But my guess is the little rugrats got into CMOS and squirreled up the settings.

I guess it may also be possible your hard drive IDE or SATA is unplugged.
Last thing I remember, running for the door,
I had to find the passage back to the place
    I was before.

Sounds like you need some new parts.
Without knowing the pertinent details its hard to make any call.
