How do i flash Hp dv6-2010sa laptop with a usb thumb drive
I have a HP Pavillion DV6-2010sa laptop thats running windows 7.
No picture display when i turn on the laptop, just caps lock and num lock LEDs flash twice.
I looked this up and it means corrupt BIOS.....
Now in order to fix this i need to flash my BIOS using a USB thumb drive ( pressing and holding Windows Key + B on start-up)
The file provided by HP only extracts into a WinFLash.exe, so i used winRAR to extract the 3635F13.FD file from WinFlash.exe.
I understand i need rename the .FD file my question is what do i have to name the 3635F13.FD file in order to get the thumb drive to flash the BIOS.
I have been trying to sort this out for ages to no avail.
Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Welcome to Windrivers setbythis
you need a bootable device and the commandline version of the bios flash which HP don't supply. Winflash is just for windows.
Try DO THIS FIRST - Perform a hard reset
If a PC suddenly fails to boot properly, you should perform a hard reset as the first procedure.
1. Disconnect all peripheral devices and remove all USB devices and media cards. You want to test the computer not the accessories!
2. Disconnect the AC power adapter, remove the battery, and then press and hold the power button for at least 15 seconds .
3. Reconnect the AC power adapter (but do not connect the battery), Press the Power button, Look for glowing LEDs near caps lock and num lock keys, and Listen for sounds of a disk drive and fan turning.
If that doesn't work try to reset the bios first by removing the RTC battery

I have seen a rash of bad Nvidia chipsets causing this sort of thing. I hope that isn't your case!

I got my thumb drive to work, everything looked fine ....my laptop beeps every 12 seconds the light on my thumb drive is flashing showing that its working... then after about a minute..the thumb drive stops flashing & there are no beeps. The laptop doesn't restart like its supposed too, it just shows the blinking LED`s as usual, i have tried different BIO`s versions but to no avail...
Any ideas?
Thanks

load a live cd/usb - ubuntu or whatever, if that loads, then you are ok, if not then you might have the HP laptop curse.

Could it be a heat related issue? Is the bottom getting uncomfortably hot?
