    Question Pleeze Help me W/ finding/ insalling ensoniq sound blaster card drivers on hp 8260

    Hello folks,
    I recently re formatted my HP Pavilion 8260-from win 95 to win 98Se (a("Borrowed Disc") that didnt seem to load all that well, I learned my lesson and went out and BOUGHT the Win 98Se Upgrade LEGIT once More...Anyway -Upon re-formatting upon a new harddrive as well,irealized all the Hp Drivers for Multimedia keyboard and sound were missing. Of Course I went to HP Forum for drivers but had the similar problem another poster has...the files given by HPare "UpGrades" the files extract to a temp or download folder and I dont know how to re-direct 'em to the proper program or folder to run... It seems after 3-4 attempts that theyre not working. So_my strategies are: I bought a new sound blaster Live-mp3+5.1, Its in the box un-opened in case the old card is unusable. Hp Phone support recommended I re-format back to 95-to get the old drivers for multi-media keyboard and sound, then use my new Win 98Se upgrade disc (also unopened in the box} to upgrade to where I wanna Be.My Beef is, there are also network card and lucent win modem hassles I wont bug U with now...Wha is the esteemed opinion of the board here Im willing to try any of my or your approaches with a little coaching... Thanks for reading the huge post:}

    Well in essence you can say the honeymoons over,meaning don't be too dependent on hp,but get your drivers ala carte.After all you came to Windrivers,which is a good starting point.Keep the win disc,you never know when you'll need it again.I would start over again,after hearing of a poor install of the os.Here's a good place to start for the sound card,but be sure of the one you have in the machine. http://www.ensoniq.com/index.html

    Usually hp downloads to c:windows/temp,but you might create your own temp file on c:
    Save it,instead of opening it up from hp,and just click on it after your done the download.You might not get all the functions of the keyboard,but the rest should be ok.Check in the bios for the possible nic/modem probs first.Make sure the irq's are good.Then get the latest drivers.Hope this helped. <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">

    Sounds like you've got a Creative Ensoniq PCI or similar, if it is a Creative card, not an Ensoniq like a Soundscape, use Creative drivers from: http://www.soundblaster.com/drivers/

    Ensoniq provide drivers for their own cards, but advise to use Creative drivers for the cards Creative makes with Ensoniq's chips & soundsets.

    I upgraded my Pavilion from Win95 to Win98 without any major problems. Of course, I did a complete FDISK, format, etc...not just an upgrade.

    Anyway, as you know, go here for HP's website for your Pavilion. Make sure you have the latest BIOS installed. Also, your keyboard driver and monitor description files should work just fine.

    If you have your original Recovery Disk, and wish to go back to Win95, go here for
    "How to Perform a Full System Recovery Using Your Single HP Disk Recovery Kit". You should be able to then upgrade to Win98 using your Win98 Upgrade disk and then download the "upgrades" for your modem and sound cards.

    Let us know how it goes...Good Luck!
