Windows XP Updates

They must be trying to get rid of xp it takes forever for the updates to begin after a fresh install.

The updates probably now reside on a server running Server 2000 in the back of a storage wharehouse using a cheap ISP provider.

MS has been trying to get rid of XP for years.... And Zonie is probably on the right track.

Unlikely. Until its gone it wont sit on any different servers then what it always was on.
More likely your system or internet connection

Not the connection because any other OS is fast as it ever was. This happens only upon a fresh install and the first batch of updates come in then it's fine. Sometime's takes 4 hours for anything to happen. Good I don't see xp much anymore anyway.

Ya'll could use RyanVM Integrator or one of the other useful slipstream utilities to build an SP3 disk. RyanVM even has an add-on for post SP2 that installs a good number of the updates. With the sundown of XP, might not be as many systems using it out there but still a viable OS for now.

It's interesting info, but as for me this doesn't mean that we should give up this OS. I've tried others and XP is the best for me today.

Welcome to Windrivers Bobbie_Ack. XP is good for a lot of people, however, end of support is not the only issue as far as updates are concerned. This also means for new hardware there wiil be no drivers for the XP as well as new software may not be compatable for the os as well. Something to think about.

No one has been writing drivers for xp for years already so, that's pretty much a moot point

That is interesting considering I just setup a new HP printer for a client yesterday with XP software and drivers.

The disc I use already has sp3 slipstreamed it's the other 150 or so updates that's the issue. Can a disc be made with all those in it also? I have recently done a few more xp formats and also did one at home and it is doing the same thing here.

Kodiak - I found this site, http://xdot.tk/updates.html and he has a way to get all of the updates that you can integrate via NLite. I haven't tried this personally but I will because it would be nice to have an XP disk with most of the latest updates to prevent the massive Windows Update problem. If you try it before I do, let us know how it worked.
