excel 2007 saves files very slowly to a mapped network drive

HI,

I configured a client's network this weekend to work with shared folder protected by windows login password to enhance his office security.
The first computer I've changed the windows login to a one with a password gave me "explorer.exe server execution failed" and I fixed it by changing the registry of personal folder to a local drive.
I'm experiencing slowness in saving office 2007 files to a mapped network drive. Locally it saves fast.
I've tried :
1. disconnect from all network drives and then reconnecting them
2. disabling avg free 2013 AV
3. Restored documents folder to its orginal location and the according registry settings

Any suggestion ?

Right click on "My Documents" click on properties, click on restore defaults or look to see where it's at.

Thank you MPP, Just restored it, But excel still saves slow to a network drive since the windows password login change

Check the event viewer on the server and client.

Thank you for the reply CB. The problem was caused because I've replaced the antivirus on the server few days ago from avg free 2014 to avira free because i wanted it to be more secure (Avira's security is tighter), But then I saw it was the reason for the slow excel saving so I switched it back and the problem was solved

Hi Ferrit,

It's just a file server for an sql express database and office files, nothing fancy.
It's a 4 year old "server" working with windows 7 pro x64.
It's an office that had 7 computers at the time I've built it and up until now they didnt even used passwords until the latest security request from one of their biggest clients.
It was a waste in this case to spend a 1500-2000$ on server hardware and another 1500$ on windows 2008 server. It ended up around 800$ for this computer including OS.
half year ago I've replaced raid 0 set to bigger 2x1tb seagte drives,Upgraded cpu from amd x2-250 to phenom 2 x4 965 with arctic freezer pro 2 cooler, Changed psu to a new HEC 400W one and replaced external hard drive just to freshen it up.
I like to keep things simple. Better for me - Usually also better for the client.

The SBS edition is targeted at small companies, does everything you need and is only $600 or so.

hahahaha yes i meantr raid 1. sorry for the confusion
the basic sbs comnes with 5 users license, So you need to add at least 5 more licenses which is about extra 400$ and now he has 11 workstations which is another 5 licenses which becomes almost 1500$.....

Thank you MPP. I'm afraid it can just handle the STORAGE part of the network and not to run sql express on it, And even if it can run sql - the atom cpu is VERY weak
