    Angry Beyond Frustration

    First, I wanted to thank all who helped in the problem I had at a Doctor's office with the wireless. to recap: (3) new Buffalo Air Station High Power N450 Giga's were installed with a WDS configuration. Cox ISP service was brought in with 50mb/s download & 10mb/s upload. Using Vistumbler to scan the surrounding areas to make sure the channels being used were not in conflict any other. now only a week later I am getting called to tell me that the laptops are freezing up on their EHR program. I am at a total loss and have no idea of what is happening. HELP and ideas would be grateful. (Ready to give up)

    Is this "freezing" caused by the wireless or the EHR program?

    Good question. Since I am not allowed to view the program in action, HIPA rules, I would assume it is the wireless devices as the hard wired PC's have not complained about this problem.
    It's not the computers that keep having problems, it's the users!!

    A mesh network is reliable and offers redundancy. When one node can no longer operate, the rest of the nodes continue to communicate with each other, directly or through one or more intermediate nodes. IOW, they self form and self heal. (A failed node can automatically reboot itself).

    The Internet itself is actually the world's largest mesh network. Information travels across the Internet by being bounced automatically from one router to the next until it reaches its destination. The Internet is often depicted as a "cloud" or "web" of connectivity because of the billions of potential paths across which data can travel. If one node is down, the data is automatically routed around the problem.

    I really dont know a lot about the system or what they require but to me if you
    had a working wireless setup which you appeared to have. Then I would be
    looking at what might be causing interference to stop the system.
    IE: microwave etc etc

    Yep, many types of devices can cause wireless interference including Bluetooth devices, cordless phones, fluorescent lights, microwave ovens, outdoor microwave links, WiMAX, wireless game controllers, wireless video cameras, Zigbee devices, and so on. Even bad electrical connections can cause broad RF spectrum emissions.

    Loss of connectivity should not make a program hang. Time to contact software's help desk.
    To troubleshoot issues have a ping run in a loop in the background and dump to a log file. If you can ping and you don't see more than 1-2% random loss (not consecutive for 3-4 sec) it's not the wifi.

    Thank you, I did check next door in a dental office to see if they were having any wireless problems. They stated they were not. Not sure how to check for interference since I do not have any equipment to check other than Vistumbler for channel conflicts.

    I did run a ping loop in DOS while running a video from the internet and walked around all the areas of the building. Loss was no more than 2-5 ms.

    Have contacted the company for the online health records to no avail. If there was a problem with program, than even the wired PC's would have a problem. As I look at the problem, it seems this problem became worse after putting new systems in, (Windows 7 Machines.) The only difference changed is they went to (6) laptops versus, the (3) they had before. This should not be a problem as they only have a total of (13) devices on the network.

    Thank you for the info SpywareDr, however after looking at this and reading the comments below, they stated this requires a special PCMIA wireless card to be able to use this app effectively. As I have to go to this office today, (45 miles away,) I trying to find a way to satisfy this client. I installed all this new equipment about (3) weeks ago and just found out Monday they were still having the problems. Go figure.

    Not necessarily. Packet loss is a fact of life, but it's far more common in wireless networks.
    Maybe it doesn't mean too much at first sight, but think how TCP works - it typically sends a packet 3 times if there is no acknowledgement. The odds of error grow with the third power of the loss rate.
    If the app isn't built with robustness in mind, errors may just skyrocket on wifi.
