    Exclamation Mom and her XP

My mom is running XP and I think and older version. She can download programs like I tunes and Malwarebytes Anti Malware. But when she tries to run them nothing happens. Is this a Hardware issue or maybe a Driver issue or just time to Punt...
    Thank you !!!

Does XP have a safe mode..when I try the F8 to get into the list at start up. There is no Safemode to select only XP Professional (SP3)...I know in Win 98 you would see a list after you did the F8 key at start up...
    Thank you !!!

You can try the method shown here -> http://exids.com/index/force_windows..._safe_mode.php to force a boot in safe mode.

Alternatively, if she has her disks, a Repair Install might be appropriate.

Before you do all that and taking into account the age of the machine, I would test the harddrive
    with the harddrive manufacturers software
IE: Seatools for a seagate hardrive
Lifeguard tools for a Western Digital harddrive
    Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3
    AMD FX 8350 4ghz OCTO-Core
    Windows 8.1 PRO 64
    Adata 256 gig SSD
    Kingston HyperX 1600 16 Gigs
    Sapphire R9 280 2gig
    Enermax Liberty Modular 620

    Build her something
I have zero faith in the prebuilt
crap being sold nowadays by any of the
    manufacturers.
My basic system for a senior would be something like this
    AMD FM2 A6-6400K (2-Core) 3.9G, 1M, 65W, HD8470D (60.00)
    Gigabyte GA-F2A55M-HD2 (65.00)
    Kingston 8 gig DDR 3 1600 (75.00)
    Seagate 500 gig (60.00)
Win 8.1 64 bit using classic shell

Prices are only approx in canadian dollars
    Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3
    AMD FX 8350 4ghz OCTO-Core
    Windows 8.1 PRO 64
    Adata 256 gig SSD
    Kingston HyperX 1600 16 Gigs
    Sapphire R9 280 2gig
