Post Web browser for DOS? Does one exist?

I use a dos 6.22 based laptop for writing HTML files, and was wondering if a web-browser exists so i can check basic HTML formatting etc. before i go back and upload to my main PC.

I'm not needing something THAT up-to date just basic html tags -- although something that supports CSS would be rather usefull, I'm not expecting a dos-based CSS browser.

If anyone could drop me a line with any or all soloutions i'd appreciate it.

    Thanks in advance.

If one does, I'd imagine it to be all ASCII

Maybe try loading Win3.1 on the laptop, and finding a copy of Mosaic.

I know MS still has a Win3.1 version of IE. I don't know what version it is but it will certainly render web pages a lot better than a really old version of a web browser.

There are a couple of DOS based web-browsers. Arachne & Lynx are probably the two most well known. They both require some type of third-party dialer, though (LAN connection tend to work better). Arache can display both text and graphics, while Lynx is a port of a Linux command line text only web browser.

Arache can be found here. http://arachne.browser.org/

    And Lynx is here http://www.fdisk.com/doslynx/lynxport.htm

Shra, I"m starting to believe you're a DOS/command line guru. If so I'd love to see you make a new thread with a guide to tips and tricks for using it to the fullest potential
One Script to rule them all.
    One Script to find them.
One Script to bring them all,
    and clean up after itself.

I've heard rumors that one is in development, but the team can't decide whether to support Flash, or go with HTML 5

CP/M is not a big deal. Not exactly a big deal. There are bigger ones:

Not exactly. Just a little of hobbyist efforts made me run several experiments + have some discussions with other hobbyists of the question. DOS has several issues - quite dim ones for after DOS generations people. I have tried to make them less dim for me.

It depends on what you mean by that. Surely, the capabilities of Arachne (the best web browser for DOS) can not give its user the full experience of the modern internet - lack of JavaScript support, lack of Flash support, weak CSS support, other issues. But major DOS web browsers do work online. Again links from the web site I have quoted already:

    http://www.compmiscellanea.com/en/ar...p-ethernet.htm
    http://www.compmiscellanea.com/en/ar...up-dial-up.htm

    - Step by step and you have Arachne web browser working online. After succeeding it, all other major DOS web browsers ( http://www.compmiscellanea.com/en/we...rs-for-dos.htm ) are going to work as well. Within their capability limits surely, but they will.

Anyway, to get a DOS machine online is not really a heavy issue, there are much heavier. At least by now - life strides forward and I do not know for how much time this sort of backward compatibility is to keep up.
