    windows 7 laptop

    I have reset a laptop using its recovery software without saving any old files, so is back to as new status, everything went well except windows update will not work, it says checking for updates, does not freeze or fail, just keeps checking, I have used the windows diagnostic tool, and still nothing, any ideas, ultimately I want to upgrade to windows 10 but cant see that happening unless I connect to update site

    I had a similar issue on a 64 bit Win 7 installation and had to download and run the Windows Download Preparation tool.

    I used the one here -> https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/down....aspx?id=20858 .

    I have found it best when redoing Windows 7, download updates KB3083710, & KB 3102810. Reboot system, Install KB3083710 then reboot system, then install 3102810. reboot check for updates and you will see it download faster on your updates.
    It's not the computers that keep having problems, it's the users!!

    On Tuesday, June 21, Microsoft issued KB 3161608, a roll-up update of "optional" fixes for Windows 7. According to its description, the update includes six patches, including KB 3161647, a fix for the Windows Update Client (yet another attempt at eliminating long update-scanning times in Windows Update).

    I have had new installs of Win7 32 and 64 take up to two days to pull updates. Best to do the IE11 manual update, and then turn off sleep and hibernation, stick it in the corner and let it crank away on updates, also, if you set upon install to automatically check, periodically check the start button for update notifications, have had a few automatically update while the manual update kept cranking away checking for updated. Got to love MS.
