problem with voodoo 4 4500 agp
HELP!!! i'm running an epox 7kxa mobo with via kx133 agp chipset, win ME, AMD700 athlon.
voodoo 4 4500 agp vid card.
problem: games that reguire glide work great.
any game that is DIRECT3D locks up my desktop upon launch and turns to a black screen. i have tried hardware acceleration rate adjustment, bios update, driver updates, agp rate change, via's 4in1, u name it!!!
some games that work fine: halflife, quake II, crimson skies, hexenII, sim city, deltaforceLW, unreal T.
games that will not work: Vietnam black ops, star wars xwing alliance, tachyon, and a whole slew of older games.
also i have tried Directx versions 6.0, 7.0 8.0 to no avail.
COULD ANYONE tell me why i might be having this problem o evenbetter how to fix it?
thanks in advance!!!

Well, it looks like you have covered most of the bases - but at the risk of being rhetorical, make sure all of your drivers are the latest and greatest (esp the 4 in 1) and make sure you have the latest bios for your mobo.
I have experienced a great number of video problems with the kt133 chipset, but I am not so sure that the problem is related in this instance.
To quickly rule out the video card, I would install a non-3dfx 3d card and see if the directX games work with it. If they do, it would point to the video card.
Hope this helps a little!

Thanks, Twisted Mister, I followed your advice and installed a non 3dfx card and it worked fine. But strangley enough I decided to try reformatting my hd and install from a clean os install and wallah!! the voodoo agp 4 4500 worked with D3D just not without problems. go figure.

also try these drivers for i have found beter performance with these than the standard drivers. They organally came from 3dfx and these drivers have been tweeked to give the best performace straight from install.
