Post Hercules 3d prophet mx 64mb woes

I just got a new Hercules 3d prophet mx 64mb today to update my voodoo5 5500agp and I formated my drive to have a nice clean disk to go with it and after I installed all of the drivers and directx and restart I tried to play some games to test it out, well whenever I try to play a game I get white lines across my screen and my system locks or the screen will just go black and then lock. Does anyone know what could be causing this?

Does fine showing pics and desktop etc 800x600 @ 32 and 16.

    Question

Have you tried new drivers for your monitor? You could also try setting the refresh rate for the monitor to optimal or 60Mhz. Try a different setting for AGP aperture size, 64MBs default. Make sure your AGP slot is AGP 2.0 compliant, some aren't. Oh and make sure the fan on the GeFORCE is working. Some utilities running in the background can cause some problems, disable them.

You could also try re-installing the Northbridge chipset drivers after you've installed DX, if they've been installed in turbo mode try non-turbo.

See if you have any IRQ sharing conflicts, the only thing that should be sharing an IRQ with your video card is an IRQ holder for PCI Steering. If you have anything else sharing the same IRQ as the video card you must change that devices IRQ assignment.

    Hope this helps.

May I ask, why are you getting rid of the V5? Is it beat? If not, do you want to sell it?

What sort of motherboard? (BX, 815, Kt133a, etc..)

Incidentally, the MX is slower than the v5/5500, with the latter being closer to GTS performance...

yup tried the irq's and still no go, as for the mobo I have a AZ11. As far as the v5 being faster than the geforce, I read somewhere that the geforce stomped the v5

Ok, on the FIC AZ11 there's a jumper for over voltage driving, see if it's set for this, it would be set 1&2 if it is, 2&3 (default) if it is not. You may want this set at 1&2. Maybe you've tried this. This jumper should be around/between the ATX connector and the processor. Sorry I haven't gotten back to you sooner.

I've got the same video card. When I tried to play Diablo II in the 3D mode, I got the same screen you're describing. When I switched to the 2D mode, the game worked fine (and I have never seen animated cut scenes look as good as they do on the GeForce 2 MX 64 MB...never). My advice is to get the newest video drivers from Hercules, DirectX 8.0a, and make sure that the game/software you're running doesn't have multiple available video modes (including the one you should be using in this situation).

Have you fellas tried disabeling AGP through dxdiag?
It cured my problem with Win 98, GForce 2 MX and VIA chipset.

Well, yeah. Heck, I've got $400-$500 lying around for a video card too. <IMG SRC="smilies/rolleyes.gif" border="0">

(I would have added 512 MB RAM, GeForce 2 MX 64 MB, and a 7200 RPM 30 GB for that much money...)
