Post S3 Trio 64V2 Upgrade needed (I think!!!)

Okay, here goes...On my Windows 95,when trying to run a game, a prompt keeps coming up saying "The program failed to initialize the display. This program requires a Direct X 7.0 compatable video card & drivers to be installed." I do have Direct X 7.0 drivers, but I can't enable Direct 3D: Acceleration features. It says "not available." So, do I need to update my drivers and sound card? If so, I need someone to help me through this! I'd be very grateful for your help! Thanks!

First thing to do is update your drivers. Go to this link & go down the page until you find your model & download the file. Might work for you! Have you also thought about upgrading your win95 to win98SE? http://www.tlccomputers.co.uk/info/d..._downloads.htm

I usually try to stay away from just outright telling a person to buy a new this or buy a new that. However, in this case, that is exactly what I suggest. Don't waste your time downloading new drivers. Modern video cards are now cheap enough that you can get a decent gaming card for $50-$100. Voodoo3, TNT & TNT2, and ATI's Rage Fury can all be foudn for that price. GeforceII MX cards can now be found for around $100.

The problem is that you are trying to run modern games on at least 3 year old technology. Even if you find updated drivers, I doubt the game will run any better, if at all. The error message is telling you that the drivers for your video card do not support DirectX 7,even though you have DX7 installed.

Easiest thing to do right now is upgrade.

Lycia is correct.
Older S3 videocards were never really a gaming card, they don't even properly do 3d support. Best to invest in a newer 3d video card if your older computer is capable of it.

I appreciate the frank opinions, and yep, I realized my technology isn't worth the effort of upgrading. Sigh! I guess fast technology drives the economy (and takes chomps out of pocketbooks, too!) Thanks, everyone! Your information is priceless!
