[RESOLVED] Internet Explorer starting at boot?
VERSION: INTERNET EXPLORER 5.5sp1
This is driving me crazy! I have this problem at BOTH work and at home. Whenever I boot my computer, Internet Explorer starts up! I wouldn't mind this, but it starts up before I get connected to the net and gives me an error message! It's not in the startup group. It's not loaded from the RUN keys in the registry. There are no entries on the run= or load= lines in win.ini. My home machine is Win98SE and work is Win95oemsr2. What gives???????

It sounds like a virus trying to dial out, I had this problem but can't remember the virus name. It was trying to dial out to email a virus.

According to Symantec there are several Virus' that attempt to connect to the internet to download addt'l components to really screw you. I would run a virus scanner on your machine. Also do a search for *.vbs

FIXED!
Sorry, you were all wrong. I scanned my computer with two different virus scanners and turned up nothing. I didn't think it was a virus since I am also using ZoneAlarm firewall.
I discovered one of my tray apps was set to automatically start the default browser when it started. Unchecked the option and all is well now.
Sometimes the solution is so simple, you wonder why you didn't see it before. Maybe it was because I was troubleshooting this at some early hour of the day
