    Cool Q3 CD Key?

    Now that I have your attention...

    I've heard from unofficial sources the ID servers no longer checked for the CD Key file for authorizing Quake3 installs to see (and join) Internet game servers.

    This could be good news to those who have lost their CD key for this game, as a few have mentioned this problem in the past.

    Can anyone confirm this?

    For some reason, when I start Q3, it always asks me for my CD Key....legit copy, so I fianlly got tired of typing it in (or copy & pasting) and just hit escape. Game runs fine, network games run fine....hey, works for me!

    Correct me if I am wrong; but it is my understanding you need the key to re authenticate your software, after upgrades and different mods, etc. I was not aware that the servers performed any kind of validation. But, then again I am somewhat of a Quake 3 newbie so what do I know?
