Baldur's Gate / Europa Universalis trouble
I have a self built computer with
p233mmx
Ga-5aa motherboard
64mb Sdram
ess 1868 sound
4mb S3 video
The trouble I'm having is that I'll be playing a game ( one of the above ) and windows ( 98se ) just suddenly shuts down to desktop. It seems to happen most often with Europa Universalis but has with Baldur's Gate. I haven't seen this with anything else. Those are probably the most system ( modern) games I have though. Any ideas? Oh and it's directx 7. Eight comes with Europa but it says it only requires 7. Besides the last time I installed 8 from that Cd it messed up a lot of other stuff. Anyway thanks for any and all ideas.

I had the same exact problem with Everquest - turned out being a bad memory module.
Hmm, check your IRQs, hopefully there is no conflict. It might be pulling too much power for the system to handle and is just quitting out on you.
Try upgrading the memory, and maybe a new video card? Just a new suggestion. Good luck!

You would have to suggest memory huh? I kind of had a suspision maybe my memory was going bad awhile back, but everything seem to be fine for a long time. As far as Video, I know I've been planning to upgrade a little but every time I save a little money something comes along that is more important.... You know like food, new hot water heater, taxes, .... you get the idea. Thanks though....
Any other thoughts would be appreciated. I will change the memory as soon as I can and see....

Hotfiles.com has a program called goldmemory, or gold mem, something like that. But anyway, it will test your memory, it makes a bootable floppy for ya so a just pop it in and wait around an hour and it will let ya know if there is anything wrong
