Advent laptop hdd install
has anyone had this problem before i have an advent 7011 laptop which has a problem on the hdd side, when i fdisk hdd all ok when i format hdd always says has bad sectors removed hdd put into any other laptop formats perfect everytime also if i put win xp in and boot from to install always gets to 100% format and then fails (fat or ntfs) at the moment i cannot get any o/s to install i have upgraded bios to latest version.i have even tried to install a drive overlay it seems to fail everytime it writes to mbr,on fat 32 it scandisks after and always says fat table currupt changing to fat table 2 still fails.i tried to format as fat 16 today and that formated correct with no bad sectors i then managed to get win me to install great but i found the ide controllers flaged out and no cdrom tried installing ide drivers but comes up blue screen cannot write to c, i have installed 3 hdd's all say same fault taken hdd out laptop install in pc all works fine . anyone got any ideas ? im thinking now hardware fault ? or even ide lead fault.
Been messing today and found i can fdisk as fat 16 and format fine with no bad sectors reported also managed to install win me ok but i cannot fdisk / format as fat 32 or ntfs also on fat 16 sometimes when trying to access mbr it fails when writing to c, i have not got new ribbon but will try when able to find wiring and ribbon on this laptop is all wires in order ie 1=1 2=2 3=3 i was wondering if ribbon is correct one or faulty, any how thank you for the replys this is strange never had this problem before hope to here from you soon

Same thoughts here. Probably a hardware fault. Most likely the motherboard.

I'd say either controller issue, or ribbon fault. If you can get your hands on a spare ribbon to try, you will probably find it will work.
