DVD Decoder Driver for XP from Win98SE
People, I have a dilema. I have what is considered an ancient laptop, a Gateway Solo 9100, circa 1997. It came with an early incarnation of DVD based on a C-Cube Microsystems DVD decoder chipset. Gateway provided a good driver for this to run under Win98, which was the prevailing OS at the time. C-Cube got bought out by LSI Logic and no one there remembers anything about C-Cube anymore (I have called and written). Gateway did not certify this system for Win2K or XP, therefore there are no basic drivers for this decoder (the OSs do recognize the drive, but not the decoder).
My question is, is there some way to decompile the drivers (both a .SYS file and a .VXD are necessary, at least under Win98) and then modify them for Win2K/XP and then recompile them? I mean, there has to be a way to get these older OS drivers rewritten somehow to work. Help me out here, OK? Thanks
