    Black and white monitor display

My monitor display is in black and white 9 times out of 10 when I boot it up. Once in a while it will come up in color, but mostly it comes up in black and white. The monitor was manufactured in March 1998, I cannot find the manufacturer's name anywhere on it. Likewise, my computer was built by an ex-relative.However it says NCR on it if that helps. If anybody has any ideas on how to fix this please tell me it is driving me crazy, thank you!!!

    Hi.
Maybe this is not a monitor problem.
Is your vga card okay? I had several same problems in the past and 90% of them had to do with the vga card or the cable connection to the monitor.

    What to do:
    1. Check the vga cable (the one which connects your pc to the monitor). It's pins must be all okay. Is any of them bend or missing?

    2. Verify that the vga cable is firmly attached to the vga adaptor and the monitor.

    3. If these didn't help, I'm afraid you have to open the chassis and check the vga card. This card is responsible for everything you see on the monitor. I won't be surprised if you told me that it was the problem. If you can't do it yourself ask someone to help you.
You sould try it on another machine or try another machine's vga card on yours.

    4. Finally, if none of the above helped you, you should check your monitor on another machine.

Unfortunately you monitor is unknown to me.
    Hope these helped.
    Good luck...
