    win98 crashes!!!

I have a slight problem. And i wonder if u could help me out? 2 days from now i bought myself a brand new processor (AMD K6-2 300) and a new motherboard. No problems installing it but when i shoud install Win98 the trouble began. My question to u is...
Can the processor or the motherboard(P5SD-B+) cause conflicts in Win98 so that it crashes everytime i try to install some hardware???
Please if u got any clue, help me!

Windows 98 had device drivers installed for your old motherboard. When you install the new mb windows 98 was confused by not having the old devices present. But still had the old device drivers installed. You will need to have all of your current adapter card software handy (ie video, sound, modem ect)
and of course windows 98. Boot your computer into safe mode. the go to control panel/system/devices. Left click on all the "+"'s delete any thing that would be associated with a MB. Such as comm, lpt, usb ports, hard drive controllers. Next open up the system devices just about every thing here is for the old mother board. This will clean up your registery as far as hard ware. Shut down and reboot your computer you should now detect a lot of new devices. As long as there is not a conflicting inf files.
You may have to go to the hidden directory inf in windows and remove these file. If you do remember that all of your hardware and some of your software makes entries here.

Of course the easies way to format your hard drive and reinstall windows from scratch.

There have been a few problems with certain batches of AMD K6-2 300 CPU's. I do not know off the top of my head which batch numbers they are but it sounds like you have one of them. My advice woiuld be to try it on another board ( if possible ) or take it back to the store for testing. If it is faulty then I would suggest changing up to a K6-2 333 ( not a 350 as they have soome problems to with the FPU ).
