We're delivering 5 business days early cause of some bright sales idea when we encounter the dreaded special machine config. Two of the 26 are to have DVD drives in them for use with the Annihilator 2 video adapter. Only the video adapters dont come with a DVD player(software). Tried the PowerDVD and SoftDVD to no avail on the ASUS cusl2 motherboard(i815 on-board video worked fine).
Called ASUS and Creative for no good reason except i guess they needed entertaining it being friday and all. (It's always the other guys fault you know) Creative admitted they used to pack WinDVD with their video cards but didnt with the Annihilator 2. Hunted down the trial version of WinDVD and viola.

Hope this bit helps some other poor schmuck.
