Post teac scsi 4x cdr fails

i have a teac scsi 4x cdr. now i dont know what happened but all of a sudden it caused my pc to stop loading into windows 98. a black screen appears saying something like mode con page..... and the c prompt is the last thing i see and it just hangs. the light on the cd stays on as if the cable is the wrong way but it's not. i tried a bit of diagnostics by entering the scsi bios, the scsi id is 7 and the jumper at the back of the cdr is set to 4 (terminator). i've changed them both around to various id's and moved the jumper from 1 through to 7. i've managed to stop it hangin and load into windows but it still wont recognise the cd as a drive. what do i do?

I would boot into Safe Mode and delete the SCSI controller driver from the device manager. Then I would boot into Normal Mode and reistall it.
