Post having a problem sharing internet with 2 pc's

Hello all, have a problem that i cant get right..I have 2 computers with a nic card in each. Each pc has a line going to a linksys switch, then, the up link line go's to the cable modem.I can not get both pc's to work at the same time on the internet,(i would have to turn one off). When i turn them on,one will get an error message on it saying there is a conflick from the other computer that there is another computer that is using that IP address already,so the one pc where the error popped up on the screen stop's working.I dont need to share files between the pc's if i dont need to.I just need both of them to work. What do i need to do to get it to work.I read other stuff on the board and it didn't help.Do i need software to do this or am i just doing something wrong...thank you

What are your TCP/IP settings? Does your ISP grant you an IP address or only grant one to your cable modem?

change your tcp/ip settings from static to "optain ip automatically". make sure you have dhcp enabled in the linksys and that the correct dns servers are there as well.

your switch is trying to give both computers the same ip address - you'll have to do 1 of 2 things - buy another ip address for your other computer, or figure out ICS or some other NAT routing software (goes for option 2)

Listen to "I ate your cat"

Doesn't make any difference how many IP addresses you were given (I'm sure just 1 unless you remember paying extra)
set both to Obtain IP Address Automatically & DHCP. You'll be on in a flash.

Timeout here. Its a Linksys switch not a router. The cable modem gives out the IP's if it is allowed to give out more then one IP.
