    ArcServe 2000 crashing

When trying to do a restore from Arcserve 2000, I get a Dr. Watson error:
    asrunjob.exe
    Exceptions: access violation (0x0000005)

Then the job gets stuck "running" and I can't stop it. Then eventually I end up with about 200 Dr. Watsons. It's messy.

Arcserve support said for me to load Service Pack 4 - I already am at SP4! Tried uninstalling and reinstalling - still crashes.

    Windows NT Sp6a
    Arcserve 2000 SP4
Exchange 5.5 on the system and also being backed up

I've had more problems with Arcserve the Backup Exec but that's not really saying much. I'd try reinstalling the tape drivers and checking the permissions for your arcserve service account. Make sure he's in the right groups and check the documentation on which groups he needs to be added to under "user rights assignment" in the local group policy object.

Are you sure that there aren't any more updates beyond SP4 for Arcserve? We are having other problems with ArcServe 7 for Netware and we discovered that while CA hasn't released a service pack in ages, there are still many fixes available that haven't been consolidated into a support pack.

Also consider, Dr. Watson may be to blame. I personally find that it causes more problems than it's able to help you diagnose, but that's just me.
