Why not return to place of purchase?

I just got a Sony SDM-HS95P LCD Screen and I noticed the manual says "DO NOT RETURN TP PLACE OF PURCHASE", it's not the first time I see this, why do they not want us to return it to the place of purchase? It's normally a quick exchange with the store policy, so why does the manufacturer want us to return it to them?

The screen is great by the way, I wanted it when I saw it online, then saw it in demo an the store and there was so much glare it was more an expensive mirror than anything else since all I could see was reflections of the lamps on the ceiling, but it was set pretty high so the angle caused the reflection of the ceiling lights, I asked the guy if I could return it if the glare bothered me too much, he said I can, but that in a normal setup there is no glare, and there's none at all here. I'm sure they're loosing lots of sales due to the screens being to high.

I also noticed in many LCD usereviews... oops I made a word out of two, I meant user reviews, buyers are complaining that the text is fuzzy just because they don't have it at the right resolution (LCDs and other digital technologies can only properly show their native resolution, anything else will be pretty blurry as you get further up or below the native res., even just the next closest resolution will cause a lot of blur or distortion) and they actually return the screen thinking it's bad because the text is blurry! At least this monitor came with a CD that immediately prompts you to appply the screen's native resolution, but still, reviews about this monitor complained of blurry text and specifically mentioned the non-native resolution their PC is set it, no wonder it's going to be blurry! Do they not even bother to insert the CD? These people are giving a bad view of LCDs because they don't know how to use them properly.

Update: Another great feature of this monitor is the light sensor that automatically adjusts the backlight level based on ambiant light, when it's dark, the display dims so it doesn't hurt your eyes, I used to have to manually adjust the brightness often. If sun starts getting in the room, it increases to a almost blindning brightness (if it's dark and I shine a flashlight in the sensor, the brightness slowly increases to a level I can barely look at when used to the dim light).

The stores are pressuring the manufacturer's to place that in their documentation. This stops, dissuades people from buying the product, trying it out, then returning it for bull$hit reasons.

See, if a return for credit is not an option, the only way is to send it back for a replacement, under warranty of course. Pay postage.

You bought it, keep it. Next time, don't buy it if you are not sure...

Don't try it out for 28 days and then take it back, saying you didn't like it.

What's wrong with sony? I never had a problem and this monitor gets nothing but rave reviews and 5 star user reviews. The XBright technology from sony does make it look a lot better than the others.

In any case, I was sure of my choice, and anyway I have 2 weeks to return or excahnge it if I want, but that won't be happening.

One of the reasons I wanted a Sony is most of my pocket PCs had Sony LCDs and they looked just great and were always voted #1 in image quality. Of course no desktop screen will approach the 200+DPI res of a high res PPC, but it's still very good.

I must admit 2 small problems:
-The navigation buttons are all in a row: input/brightness profile/OK/up/down/menu and it makes it hard to follow without looking at the buttons all the time, my old CRT had 1 single button to set everything: you pressed it to show the menu, rotated it to navigate, press to select, rotate to adjust, press to confirm, that was the user-friendlest screen I had ever had, but after all you only need to set it once, especially with the auto brightness feature.
-The other thing is the black isn't 100% black when in a dark room, but most if not all LCDs have this problem, although a higher contrast ratio helps, I think this is close to as good as they get, but my projector, also being LCD technology, has the same black level issue so I'm used to it, overall the image quality is far superior to my CRT's where dark images appeared as a solid black rectangle, all CRTs were like that for me, and I did have the brightness/contrast on max.

Apparently you dont read do you ?
Does Sony+ Rootkit ring any bells?
After what they pulled they can keep their products.
I wont deal with a company that uses those type of tactics.
And the only way other companies contemplating these tactics will learn is when its hurting real bad in sony's pocket book.

To answer your original question, I'm assuming they don't want you to reutrn it to the point-of-purchase to prevent people like yourself from "buying" something, using it for a few days and then returning it - sort of like renting something, but at no cost.

Remember, you were going to do this with a hard drive a few months back so you could temporarily store some data? - This is why we've lost a lot of the luxuries of easy returns we used to have.

I did read all replies up to yours and still have no idea what you're talking about, what the heck is Sony+Rootkit?

OK I did a search on Sony Rootkit and found it's some sort of spyware they put on their desktops, I see how that means I'll never buy a Sony desktop (I never would have even before knowing this), but I don't see why I should stop myself from choosing the best screen they had at the store which gets nothing but rave reviews.

I know that rootkit thing isn't very "nice", but I'm far more bothered by drug companies and government agencies that are suppressing the cures for cancer, heart disease, and just about every other disease which ends up costing millions of lives every year. I was a victim of this fraud, which is the biggest crime ever committed on this planet, 5 years ago I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease, I was told I needed surgery (1st scam: A natural product would have reversed the disease in days), then I was told I had Crohn's disease (the retard doctors thought I had an appendicitis, that’s after the 7 first doctors said I was fine when I was in excruciating pain) and then I was told I needed to take chemotherapy drugs for the rest of my life (which are know to cause cancer, and remember, this is supposed to be an ANTI-cancer drug, but all cancer drugs cause cancer). I recently learned this was all a big fraud to make thousands off my pain and suffering by giving me a needless $50 000 surgery followed by prescribing me drugs that are up to $1028.00/bottle to take for life which would have given me more diseases like cancer and liver damage.

After seeing the ad for the "Natural Cures They Don't Want You To Know About" book I bought it and am so glad I did, I learnt all the truth, I'm off the deadly drugs and now taking natural products that are proven to work better than the drug, with no side effects, and which reduce the risk of cancer rather than increase it significantly like the drugs did. I also now know of an inexpensive natural product that reverses the disease in as fast as one hour if ever I feel I have a problem (I've been fine since the surgery). All this information wasn't in the book, and I didn't believe it all at first but after significant research, I'm sure it's all 100% true and I'm never going to a conventional doctor again, statistics prove conventional medicine is the #1 cause of DEATH in America.

The book also explains how chemicals are being put into foods to make you hungry, addicted, fat, and to give you specific diseases, this to is also proven and obvious. Many diseases like cancer, MS, arthritis, attention deficit disorder, and many more, are often caused by food additives which are purposefully put to give up diseases, if you go to a doctor, they'll give you drugs to "treat" the disease which will only give you more problems, the real cure is to remove that additive from your diet and the disease will often go away. I'm eating almost only organic now, and would recommend you guys do to, don't wait until you get a possibly deadly disease (according to conventional medicine, no disease is really deadly when treated properly). And if anyone has or knows someone with cancer, don't let them die as a result of conventional medicine, only 3% survive cancer with conventional medicine, while 80-100% survive with alternative cancer treatments depending on which of the 18 proven cancer cures you use. Think about it, if these cures were known by everyone, the drug companies making cancer drugs, the cancer research, the cancer charities, the cancer clinics/hospitals would all shut down overnight, the cancer industry wants more people to get cancer, and they've succeeded, there's 50 times more cancer than before the cancer industry started, you really think your cancer donations went towards preventing cancer, I'm sorry to say, but they went towards increasing cancer, that's how the cancer industry makes money. My friend's mom was diagnosed with terminal cancer and the doctors said she doesn't have a chance to survive, she went to see a naturopath, and in 1-2 weeks her cancer was gone, the naturopath used one or more of the known cancer cures, and of course they worked (she's not an exception, most people that go the natural way have their terminal cancers cured very fast and with no drugs or surgery).

Sorry to get off topic, but people are dying because they don't have this information. I'm sure you can understand how this, the biggest crime on the planet, bothers me far more than a company that can see what music you listen to or whatever that Sony thing does.

I would highly recommend lookin into natural cures or reading the Natural Cures book, don't be fooled by the bad reviews, they are mostly posted by people paid by the pharmaceutical companies because he is exposing the truth about pharmaceutical companies killing people for profit, remember Vioxx? They KNEW it would kill at LEAST 20 000 people (it ended up killing over 100,000) when they approved it, they didn't care because it would return billions in profit.

www.newstarget.com has a lot of good informatio on natural cures and the sick truth about conventional medicine.

    Click it's simple really.

if the Government supresses stuff (can we say conspiracy theory?), you can vote in a new government.

I can't vote in a new sony or other company, so i'll hit them with my pocketbook instead.

The root kit is more then something they put on some of their PC's. it was part of music cd's that would install without any notice even in some cases using the autorun.

For LCD's screens, the question beg's, wich is better, i personaly like the samsung screens SOOO much better then the sony ones.

What I liked of this sony screen was the quality compared to others in the store, the design, and the auto backlight brightness adjustment sensor, so when I turen the lights off the screen dims to not hurt the eyes, I don't know if others have this feature (I'v only seen it on Sonys but I'm sure others must have that too), the great reviews it got also encouraged me to get this one. I have a lot of sony products and haven't had any problems, in fact apparently there's a potentional problem with my camera (I haven't had any problem) and they are accepting to replace them all, whether the waranty expired or not, even cameras from other brands that have the problematic sony CCD sensor in them.

So I'll continue to support their non-PC products, just stopping to buy their "bad products" should be enough for them to stop doing the bad things they're doing, I don't think there's anything "bad" in my monitor. Maybe the light sensor is really a camera to spy on me? Anyway, I've had nothing but great satisfaction from my other Sony products (camera, dvd-rw, tape drive, amplifier/speakers, monitor).

Oh, and I don't think any government would legalize the cures for cancer (yes, there's a law against curing cancer with anything other then drugs, which only worten cancer anyway), it's probably one of the biggest money source for them. The only way is to let as many people know so they stop taking dangerous drugs, so basically like Sony, stop buying drugs, but that will only happen when enough people are informed about them.

Anyway, I'd rather fight against companies that are killing millions of people than companies that are spying or whatever it is Sony is doing with their computers.

    Sony PC's BWAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHHA
You dont really read or research very well thats redily apparent.
All the noise you made about all that hardware you researched.
And all you come up with on Sony|Rootkit is their PC's
Seeing what music you download is the least of the problems with this little piece of code.
Which by the way appears that Sony stole and used without approval.
I think the exploit count on that lil honey is up to about 5 now
See what yer listening too BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA

So let me get this straight.

Government pays for health care (in Canada they do)
Government knows that "natural cures" work better
Government passes law preventing "natural cures"

Now i'll admit that some perscription drugs are not covered under health care.
However, all the associated treatments, Chemo, Doctor visits, transportation to specialists, hospital rooms, nurse care are all covered.

So your saying that the Government passed a law so they could spend more money on healthcare just so that some private companies could make some extra cash?

BTW, there is a fixed pricing on perscription drugs from the US sold in Canada. So the pharmasuticals don't make much money here in Canada.
