programs on local disk
hello ppl
My computer is partitioned into two drives:
C: (system) and E: (local disk)
Up until now ive been using my E: drive to store all my music files and as a data store in general.
The thing is my e: drive is about 3 times larger, and has lots of space left to install programs, in comparison to my c: drive.
Ive never actually attempted to install any programs on this drive before because i didnt think this was possible.
However after having read a few posts in these forums I tried with a small adware program.
I transfered the installer to the e drive and extracted the files to the local disk and.. the program ran fine when invoked.
Id liked to ask if this is the case in general?
ie If i continue to install on the local disk e using the same procedure described above, are MOST programs likely to run without any troubles?
In 'general' because - Ive noticed that i cant change to the e: drive from the command prompt. Im thinking this may cause some installation issues in cases where the program requires some manual configuration.
Or is there a way around this as well on systems with a partitioned hard drive?
Id appreciate your input
thanks

Most software will ask you at the beginning of the install which drive letter and directory you wish to install to. If you choose E:\some directory\, it will install the software to the drive letter your specify.
Most software can be installed to whatever drive you choose, so if space is an issue on your OS drive (c , remember to point future installs to your other drive letter. (Realize though that some software needs to install certain files to the windows directory, so a small part of the files may become located on the OS drive as well).

Start, run type cmd. You should see c:\documents and settings\blah-blah-blah
At the prompt type e: hit enter
You should be on the e drive
