    Cool Lg Cd-rw Ced-8083b Help!!!

I'm having trouble loading gameCD's and Audio CD's in the drive.I opened the device manager and I selected DVD/CD-ROM drives and selected the LG CD-RW CED-8083B drive. Then,I clicked properties and the Device status read Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)

Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device.I started the troubleshoot device and it told me to reinstall the device. As i started the Add Hardware wizard The drive showed up on the Found hardware list with a Yellow explanation mark saying a problem occured while installing this device.Your new hardware may not function properly. So,I inserted another disc in the drive to see if I fixed the problem. The problem still existed.I tried Reinstalling it many times.I tried to update the driver but no uddates were available.I went to windows update to check for available drivers and I couldnt find any updates or drivers.I need help.

    Welcome to WD forums $ouljamatt.

I note you have a cd RW, which very probably means you have some cd writing software which then means you are using things called 'filter drivers' (to do any writing operations) as well as what in windows (from 98 onwards) would be 'standard system drivers' (windows has native files for cd reading & thus requires no drivers for that part & that's why you can't find any updates )

First thing to check methinks, is that the unit itself isn't coincidentally failing before we start with anything else. Best test for this is to try & boot from a windows system disk, by setting the 'boot from' option in bios (ask if you aren't sure ) - if your unit can sucessfully boot, then its time to look at software & your windows setup..

Next step in general troubleshooting of cd issues, is to remove any & all writing type software (including things that create virtual drives like daemon tolls or alcohol 120 etc) as they introduce these 'filter drivers' mentioned earlier which can conflict with other pieces of software if not installed in the right order(or they seemingly just go wrong to 'annoy you' sometimes , its very common anyways ). Once they are all removed, restart in safemode, remove any & all references to the drive(s) in device manager & restart, windows should refind the items correctly (fingers x'ed ! )

Try all of that & let us know how you get on, a note of your operating system & any cd type software present would be handy if you need to ask more
