    Hello;

    It helps to know what Operating System, what player, what you have already downloaded (driver id), etc.

    Without that info, hard to offer advice.

    The player asked for is what plays the music on the PC, not where it is stored.

    Stevo, I would think that the fact you've had the same problem with the player on different computers would point to a defective player. I think I'd be calling Samsung Support about now. Samsung makes excellent products, but they still crank out a lemon now and again.

    yes cct they would be the options but apparently the software then askes you to install the hardware device and this one isnt recognised. it appears to be an issue with the driver on the device itself so what i want to do is install the device so i can get it connected properly so i can at the very least update firmware to try and resolve the issue. plus samsung say its out of warranty so they cant help me

    The USB cable is usually the first suspect. Have a shop do a quick test with a known good cable (or someone you know with one).

    Does the unit charge? Does it work with the ear-buds?

    Question

    tried that, the unit charges and it does work with sound and vids etc, so cant be the cable. it seems to me that the file that holds the driver within the device is corruptes so if i update it hopefully it will resolve it but in order to do that i need to find a way of getting it to work first its like a vicious circle

    If you plug it in then go to Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Computer Management, Storage, Disk Management, is the MP3 player showing up in there?

    edit: I think you have to be Admin

    Alas, then as the knowledgeable slgrieb posted, your MP3 player (external) would appear to be toast.

    I know it is out of warranty - so am I actually.

    It is just a thing to live with.

    personally i think its absolutely ridiculous just for the sake of a driver, i could resolve the issue if i had the driver installed in the first place. surely there must be somewhere on the web that has the driver for it but thanks for your help guys

    You have tried the player on two different machines... it's not the driver unless you manage to pick two machines that both have defective usb. If you plug in a normal usb drive (thumb/pen/key) into those machines, does it work? If it does, that is more proof that the samsung player is bad.
