Unhappy GeForce2 MX DH Pro Problem

I had just reformatted my computer and was installing the drivers as usual and when it came time for my graphics card, I did the same old thing and installed the driver and the software from the disk. After I clicked 'ok' to restart the computer it seemed normal. Normal up unto the point where the screen blackens out and is about to load the desktop. From there my monitor just fades away and I can't see anything.

The Power is still on, but I can't see a thing and the power indicator is just blinking and I identified the blink as being 'off'. When I turn off the monitor and turn it back on, it says it's functioning normally and that I should check power cables and the connection (It's the self test it does when not connected to the computer). The only way to get access back is to turn off the computer and iniate Safe Mode. From safe mode I change the refresh rate to factory default and reboot. I can now get back into windows normally.

The problem is that I can't change the screen resolution without the same problem happening again. And I can only choose 'factory default' or 'optimal performace' from the refresh list. There are no extra tabs when you open display properties for the graphics card. If I choose optimal performance, I get the problem again. If I choose factory default I don't have a problem. I can't even set my colors higher than '16 colors' without having the problem occuring again.

Is there a problem with my monitor? I installed the drivers for it from the manufactuers website.

Graphics Card: GeForce2 MX DH Pro

It's a 32mb card and bus type is AGP 4x/2x

    The company is Leadtek. www.leadtek.com.tw

My monitor is an Avitron AV-7TF

From KDS. Korea Data System www.kdsusa.com

I'm at a loss at what to do right now. Please Help.

If you are running an early athlon system you may be running into problems in the AGP slot. Early athlon's were prone for not accepting AGP video card, and causing lock ups, or failures all together.

Also check and see if the Power supply is above 300 watts...that can cause weird stuff too.

Can you give me instructions for checking my power suppply and figuring out my AGP problems.

And yeah, I'm running an Athlon 600mhz, so it might be an early athlon.

    Sure...no problem

Power supplies always have their wattage rating on thier label on the inside of the machine. If it says "250w" it is a 250watt power supply and I would suggest a new one...

What kind of MOBO and processor you have?

I'd also like to add that I had the card working fine before I reformatted.

Well that changes everything...not to sound dumb...but did you get the card plugged back in all the way???

The power supply is still sitting tall with me though....my guilemot Gforce2 mx 64 blew my 250w power supply on my Athlon 500....(one of the few without problems)

You may have your Desktop resolution set too high for the monitor to display and/or the refresh rate may be too high. Most monitors will turn off before letting you break them...

Try booting in VGA mode (Win2k) or Safe mode (9x) and then resetting your resolution to something pitiful like 800x600 and the refresh rate to 60Hz. You can always go up from there... If you have the proper monitor drivers installed, it should only let you define numbers that are compatible with the monitor...
