Post An idea on the map testing for Quake 3

Ok, I have downloaded about 10 or so maps. I think I have found faults with only about 2. So, here is an idea.

Someone pick a map, we all test play it at home and put our opinions up here.

That is the first map I propose we test drive.

<a href="http://www.planetquake.com/lvl/Default.asp?page=7&pagesize=8" target="_blank">The page you can find it on on the LvL hosted site on Quake 3.</a>

    <a href="http://www.fileplanet.com/dl/dl.asp?/lanparty/pnp/druel2.zip" target="_blank">The link to download it from Fileplanet.</a>

I will say this one here is a serious high sailer and you can get some incredible heights on this one. I played real good against 5 or 6 bots without chugging. (and this is a K6-2 500 Mhz, 228 Meg of RAM, GeForce 2 Ti)
If it aint broke, TWEAK it!
When in doubt, throw it out!!

I can't get maps to load for some strange reason. I tried for half an hour last night, to no avail.

The only concern with this, is what happens if you connect to the server but don't have that map? Does it download automatically or what?

I would rather see some of the current levels switched around for variety. There are other good DM levels that come with Quake, too.

    Taz,

nice map, a little small. I think it would make for some quick games when quite a few people get on, although it would be a good change as we are so used to the regular maps. What else you got??

Where did you put the maps? What directory? You have to put them in your Baseq3 directory. To load them, go to Single Player and then go to SKIRMISH.... (maybe thats where you been having problems?) and from there you can pick whatever map you have for Free For All, CTF, of Team Deathmatch. If you cant see a map under Free For All, switch to CTF or Team Deathmatch and it might pop up.

If you connect to a server and you dont have the map, it boots you, unless you have a command set the right way so it would download. DO NOT DO THAT..... even on a fast connection, its like you are on a 56K. It is best to find out the map and download it from Fileplanet, it is quicker... and Fileplanet you wait in line 30 minutes to download a file that took 1 minute! LOL

The idea with new maps is put one in the rotation. And when someone connects to Milenkos server he can set up a message that lists a simple URL so they can go there and get the info on the server... MAP LISTING... ect. Either that or Milenko, Morticia or myself can bring up whatever map he has loaded that isnt in the rotation and can start the rotation back up.

OK, Taz. Thanks for the detailed instructions, a lot better than some of the ones given online. Anyway, I tried the map and I don't really care for it all that much. The biggest problem I had was trying to see through all the grating.

On the other hand, I did give <a href="http://www.planetquake.com/mpmaps/maps/chiropterata.html" target="_blank">"ChiropteraTA"</a> a try and I like it a lot:

Good size with lots of places to jump, especially once six or more players get going.

    Another vote here for Chiroptera.

I've had it for some time now and it's nice, tight, and allows for a variety of tactics to be used.

There is one map that comes with Q3 Team Arena, I think. It is Q3CTF4. I absolutely love that map! load it up, look around, and imagine 15 people in an excessive frag/blast/kill-fest!! Probably be a few negative scores though.
