OK, so it seems its installed correctly

What do you mean it won't allow you to open the volume control?

In control panel, multimedia, does the yahama sound appear in both playback and record? Are they greyed out?

If you click start, run, type in sndvol32.exe and click ok what happens?

It looks like your Win ME is set to only install digitally signed drivers. You need to uncheck this, then uninstall & re-install the Yamaha XG drivers.

If the driver is not digitally signed (and the Yamaha is not) ME will simply not install it, but claim that it has!!

Had this a while ago during a format / reinstall on an ASUS / onboard Yamaha XG ME machine - took a bit of head scratching to fathom out!!

    Good luck

    John

Noo Noo, when i click volume controll, it doesn't come up. Nothing happens at all. IN playback and record it's greyed out and says no playback/recording device. But if I look under devices and audio it says the yamaha ac-xg.

and Atodini where do I go to "uncheck" to install monly signed drivers?

    Thanks a bunch.
