Yet anoher 845 GRG SoundMax issue

I have a 845 GRG Motherboard. I goto intel's website to get drivers for the Integrated SoundMax Audio with SPX. It links me to get this file called WDM3503b_SM3.exe. I extract and run the setup. After setup it tells me that it cannpt find the driver and needs to reboot. Are these the incorrect drivers? I am clueless. My specs are:

    P4 2.4 / 533 FSB
    845GRG Mobo
    40 GB WD HD
    80 GB WD HD
    384 MB DDR 266
    CD ROM
    DVD ROM
    GeForce4 4600
CND Riser card for 5.1 extension

Without knowing all the specs I went to Intel and typed in 845GRG and they sent me to this page with a different sound card drivers listed:
    http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scri...n&submit=Go%21

Take a look at these and see if they are what you are looking for. (I assumed you are using Windows XP Home, for the soundcard drivers it looks like they are generic for all versions of windows)

This may sound dumb but is the onboard audio being detected at all and is windows asking for drivers at all? Possible the soundcard is not turned on in the bios? If it isn't turned on in the bios then Windows won't detect it and you cannot force the drivers onto windows because the hardware does not exist in it's eyes.

I did a search on their website and could not find anything about your problem. It is beyond my knowledge. There are many here who know far more than I. Hopefully they can assist you better.

    Sorry,
    Eric

Daffy this is a new board... we really do not need you posting a myriad of confusing drivers when the problem is not going to be solved by installing a 98 driver.

    Justmike2000

2 things occur to me, first, have you installed the motherboard drivers?
second, boot to safe mode and log in as administrator. Check in add/remove programs for intel or soundmax sound and remove it. Then into device manager and uninstall whatever sound or unknown devices you find.
the xp drivers are at the bottom of the page.

They are the ones that eedmond pointed you to. The file name you have in your first post is definitely the wrong one.
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."

Yes I had the filename wrong, but the one ed pointed out to me still doesn't work. What I do is extract and run setup and it tells me driver not found. I am not sure the problem.

I thank all of you for the help so far. Ok here is what is up. The setup doesn't want to install the drivers. When I goto DM and try to install it myself it doesn't recoginize it as a driver for my sound card. These drivers are maybe for a later version of the 845GRG? Is it possible to find older 845 GRG sound drivers.

Yes it has sound drivers on there and there is a warning that says the drivers are non WHQL certified. They work fine in windows but most of the time they make my computer blue screen and restart in certain apps I use. So I tried looking for newer drivers and I found em but they won't install.

OK Mike now the drivers are probably the right ones .. what you want to do is extract them to a folder where you can find them, if your drive is partitioned the put the folder on a latter partition then remove any instances of the sound drivers from divice manager reboot then choose select location then browse to where you put the driver folder.

if those drivers don't work give these a try ...

Now you are posting avance sound drivers from a via board for an INTEL board?

Are you determined to confuse mike to the point of giving up?
