DVD Recognition
I know, everyone posting the same problem, but I've read the threads and tried their suggestions. My step-dad has an hp pavilion mx75. I use the DVD rom and it plays my CDs and The Sims 2 with no problems. I've tried playing many different DVDs though and nothing is happening. It does not recognize that a DVD has been put in. I have no idea what it wrong. I'm assuming it doesn't need to be cleaned b/c I play The Sims on it with no problems and played it earlier today and it had no problem reading the disk. Any suggestions?

What type of DVDs manufactured,DVD-R,DVD+R or DVD-RW?
Does it have a software DVD player installed like WINDVD?

I have InterVideo WINDVD 4 and earlier downloaded WINDVD 6 to see if that would solve the problem and it still did not recognize it.
I'm trying to play a DVD that I just bought from Best Buy 1 hour ago.

Intel Mod
There's a faint possibility that a clean could remove something that is affecting the DVD wavelength but not the CD. But I doubt it.
If the drive can't see commercial pressed DVDs (both movie and data disks) then most likely the DVD section of the dual-wavelength laser has failed.
Time for a late Christmas present?
