asus p4s8x and front front audio connector

hi i'm wanting to build a front panel for my case with stereo headphone and microphone jack. i can get all of the parts i need from radio shack but i'm just not sure about one thing.

i was searching for a diagram of intel's front panel audio cable and that brought me to this thread. in it, houseisland (email disabled or i'd mail him) gives this diagram. question though, there a TWO audio return signals on the header. are they supposed to be shorted together on the jack? thanks in advance.
