I know about 90% of the people on the forums will say that they are smarter than the other techs that they work with, but I need some hardcore evidence.

Example -- I work for the provincial government, tech supporting one of the departments.

This one tech brings in her friend's old home PC (interesting already). She claims something is wrong with Win98 upgrade, it freezes randomly through it. So we try all the usual fixes, disabling caches, etc. Still won't work. Then we move on to the more serious ones, like pulling out all the cards and thrting that way. Still no good. Eventually we decide to flash the BIOS and give up. First of all, instead of the 3 gig HDD that she thought she had, turns out she's got a 17 GB HDD (I wish I could get surprises like that ) So then the tech that gets paid mountains more than the both of us (pu together) comes back. We explain everything we tried, yada-yada-yada, then she's like "What? Flash the BIOS? What's that? How do you do it?" I was too deep in shock to laugh immediately, but once I started, I almost fell off my chair.

P.S. yeah, yeah I know. Some of these techs only deal with brand new garbage from Dell, etc. So the biggest hardware fix they preform is "Is it still under warrantee?" But still, I didn't expect this level of (in)competency
